The Newport City Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 5:30 PM in the Director's office on the NGS campus. Items on the agenda will include discussion and voting on the contract of the Superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year. The meeting is open to the public.

NGS Kindergarten Registration 2023 is Tuesday, April 18th & Thursday, April 20th 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at the NGS Clinic. A child must be age 5 on or before August 15th to register for next school year. For questions, please contact NGS Nurse Kathy Ragan, RN at 423-623-3952. Please bring the following with you to the registration: 1) Copy of birth certificate with current legal name (Must have state seal – not mother’s copy), 2) Copy of social security card with current legal name, 3) Tennessee Dept of Health Certificate of Immunization with legal name (Must have health exam for 2023 & all immunizations documented), and 4) Proof of residence (Telephone or utility bill or tax notice with current address).

Attention 8th Grade Parents! Today your child is receiving an 8th grade registration packet for Cocke County High School. Please look over this packet with your child and use it to help you complete the following registration link. The registration link must be completed by March 1st. If your child is planning to attend Cosby High School or another out of county high school there is no need to complete the link. Newport Grammar School is currently in a “Lockout” where students and staff remain indoors and all entrances are secured. This is different than a “Lockdown.” We continue to be in constant communication with Newport Police Dept. pertaining to current situation in Newport and Cocke County. We will update you as we know more. Please be assured that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. UPDATE: We have been informed that the situation is now resolved. NGS will operate under normal dismissal procedures for this afternoon.

Newport Grammar School teachers Whitney Butler (1st Grade) and Carla Sexton (5th Grade) recently graduated from the Leadership Cocke County program as part of the Class of 2022. As part of the program, both teachers completed the nine-month program, which involved developing leadership skills, in addition to discovering many aspects of the Cocke County community. Leadership Cocke County features a two-day intensive retreat where class participants learn about themselves, their classmates and develop leadership skills, as well as eight themed days about different sectors of Cocke County, including government, healthcare, tourism and recreation, business and industry, education, agriculture, and law enforcement.

Whitney Butler received the Teaching Excellence Award for her immersive teaching of history with interactive games and multimedia elements that encourage a well rounded learning experience, as well as for the promotion of the study of local history to her students.

During the Coordinated School Institute in Franklin, Tennessee, February 28 - March 2, Newport City School System's Mischelle Black, Health Coordinator was recognized as Coordinator of the Year.
